Views and Ideas of the "Mass"

I’m not exactly sure if I am thinking the same thing that we are supposed to be writing about this week but I will just go ahead with it. Ok, in my opinion I think that this idea of thinking about whether it is right for someone to lets say, cut of a limb as an example (because we have been talking about it so much) or not is not that difficult. By using this idea of ‘Biopolitics’, it is useful to look at the interaction between Life and Society. Many of the issues that come up with this subject is from the ideas that society is trying to almost “force” onto individual’s lives and have them conform to the rest of society. The idea that “beauty” or even “normal” is achieved through having all of your limbs and acting like everyone else is what is bringing people to say that cutting off your limbs for no reason except because you want to is not right and that we shouldn’t let people do it. These thoughts and ideas from other people shouldn’t play any part in the decision to let people do this or not because for one it doesn’t affect their lives and two, which is the biggest thing is that it is NOT their body which means they should have no say in what someone wants to do with their own body. Just because one person thinks that it is wrong doesn’t mean that it should prevent the other person from being able to do it. But that is how things work in this and many other societies. It is always the mass who decides what is right and wrong and then tries to spread this throughout the rest of society and even into other societies. I think that it is kind of simple to sort out the many factors bearing on ‘Biopolitics’, just let the person do what they want with their own body.
