I will start with a little background. I work two part-time jobs- as a bartender at Ciao Bella in Edina and also as a Butcher for Rainbow Foods in West St. Paul. My father teaches cullinary arts and I grew up with fresh, homemade food. Food has always been a big part of my life. Since school started this semester I have made an effort to try to eat less fat, giving up my weekly ribeye steak and bacon-garnished whatevers. My girlfriend and I cook at home most of the time and I buy just about everything at Rainbow. I'm there anyway and they pay union wages. In general I drink too much coffee and too much alcohol.
Thursday 3/4:
10:00 A.M.- 1 apple. 2 cups of coffee. At hame fefore school.
More coffee and water all day. I usually carry a thermos of coffee and a water bottle.
6:00 P.M.- Salad Bar at Rainbow. Spinach, Romaine, yellow pepper, carrot, olives, cooked chicken breast strips(pretty scary), fat free ranch dressing. Tap water.
11:00 P.M.- 1:00 A.M.- 1 Jameson on the rocks, 3 pints Summit EPA. More tap water.
Friday 3/5:
10:30 A.M.- Banana, handful of peanuts, Coffee. At home.
water and coffee during class.
2:00 P.M.- Brown Rice, steamed broccoli and a roasted chicken breast. More water.
10:00 P.M.- At Ciao Bella. Tomato and avacado flatbread with goat cheese. water all shift.
11-2:00 A.M.- 1 shot Rumplemintz, 4 pints Summit EPA.
Saturday 3/6:
Slept until 1:30 P.M. and rushed to work without eating. Drank tap water all day at work.
5:00 P.M.- 2 hard boiled eggs from home.
10:30 P.M.- 1/2 Jacks frozen supreme pizza and 2 vodka sodas w/ lime. Sad day.
Taday so far (Sunday 3/7) I've had 2 cups of coffee, lots of tap water and leftover brown rice and chicken. I think my eating is directly related to my schedule and in general I eat too late in the day, drink too much(or more than the average person), and am very dependent on coffee. I didn't have any coffee yesterday and was completely worthless at work all day.

I found it interesting that you mentioned all the alcohol you drank. From what I can tell you're the only person who mentioned it. It might be that some people aren't 21 so they didn't put it up. Alcohol is the very high in calories (about 230 calories per shot of 80 proof liquor). All these calories are "empty calories", so your body can't use it for anything. I'm not judging you, because I certainly do my fair share of drinking, and I bet a lot of our peers do as well. Just something I thought you (and everyone else) should be aware of.
ReplyDeleteI have actually noticed alcohol consumption documented in just about every post. That aside, your coffee drinking throughout the day with little food intake is similar to my own eating habits. I find this (bad) habit wreaks all sorts of havoc on my digestive system, and I spend a lot of afternoons with a queasy upset stomach. Do you have similar experiences? At least you managed to eat at least one fruit per day, and for proteins you could do a lot worse than chicken, eggs, and nuts!
ReplyDeleteI'd be dead if I had your job(s). I really do get the draw of the after-work drinks (especially if the booze is this high quality and easily available)--the 'erotics,' and maybe the social side of eating / drinking.
ReplyDeleteBut Boy Howdy, human livers aren't built to take one shot and four beers nearly every day for years. The science side: the liver produces an enzyme (ethanolenase) that breaks down the alcohol. As we drink more and more, the liver makes more and more and gets used to it. A serious, trained drinker can put away an amazing amount--like what would nearly kill the rest of us.
But then it fails.....
